By SuzieB
The Bissell Total Floors Complete vacuum exceeded my expectations! The vacuum is powerful and did a fantastic job on every task I've tried so far. This model comes with added features that I've not had in other vacuums I've owned, and they really made a difference in how clean my house was after using it.First of all, the vacuum has plenty of suction and did a great job on my floors. I have a mix of carpet, rugs, and hardwood in my home. The vac did a great job all around. Even my dark rugs looked much better. The on and off switch for the brush was very handy when vacuuming hard floors. I was able to easily turn off the brush so it didn't just knock the dirt around when I cleaned the hardwood floors. It was interesting to see how quickly the dirt accumulated in the clear dirt cup as I worked. This vacuum offers deep suction from the edge of the vac, so it can clean up anything along the baseboard. I was a bit skeptical of this, but it really did a great job. It will let me get a deep cleaning every time I vacuum, without having to take the extra time to use a crevice tool. Normally that ends up pretty low on my list of priorities, now I won't have to worry about it.It comes with an amazing TurboBrush tool. Bissell offers a turbo brush designed for pet hair with some of their models. However, I thought the regular turbo brush did an awesome job on pet hair! The dark red fabric on my couch is napped, so it attracts hair from my chihuahuas. They shed so much fur that I don't understand why they aren't bald. The turbo brush did a great job in removing it from the couch, even along the curves. My dogs have short hair, so you might not have the same results if you have a long hair pet. Bissell sells attachments designed for pet hair so you can upgrade if you need to. The turbo brush also did an amazing job under the couch cushions and other awkward places that need a brush but would be hard to use the whole vac on.The TurboBrush attaches to the hose so you can use it to clean stairs easily and safely without having to maneuver the vac on the steps. The hose is very flexible and is long enough to do a good job on the steps. It just occurred to me that I can take it out to the garage and use the TurboBrush in the car!The 40 foot cord is one of my favorite features of this vacuum. I can plug it in the most centrally located outlet in the house and can vacuum everywhere without having to change the plug! That might not seem like much to a lot of people, but it's wonderful for me because one of my rooms contains outlets behind heavy furniture. Vacuuming the far corners has been tricky at times. The handle is more ergonomic than on other models, so it's easier to handle. This is particularly helpful during longer cleaning jobs, or anyone with wrist problems. This isn't the lightest weight vac I've used, but it is lighter than most others I've tried and it's easy to carry up the stairs.I'd like to note that the resolution on the installation instruction pictures is very poor, causing a little assembly confusion. I also wish there was more than one hose extension tube, which would probably take cleaning to another level.I never really thought that a vacuum could offer additional features that would really make me feel like my house was cleaner than using a regular vac. The Bissell Total Floors Complete lived up to it's claims in my house.

By Andrea Polk
I received this vacuum as part of the Amazon Vine review program. I have 3 dogs, a teenage daughter who never looks down, and a husband who never wipes his feet. I vacuum daily and look for machines which are easy to use, and work well on hair and dirt. I do use crevice tools and hoses to grab dust bunnies under the bed and snatch cobwebs from the corners of the room, but for the most part I'm most interested in 'not too heavy' and 'great suction' in a vacuum. That being said, the BISSELL Totla Floors Complete Bagless Upright Vacuum was just 'OK' (3 out of 5 stars) because while it did a great job on medium length high-low carpet, it neeeded to be set to the bare floors setting to do so. When used on Berber carpet on the bare floors setting, it did an OK job, but I didn't feel like it got the deep doown fine dirt pulled out by other vacuums I own (Hoover Windtunnel and Dyson upright). The edge cleaning port (directs suction to the edge of the vacuum) is very good for tile and wood flooring, and fair for carpeted floors.I didn't like that when the vacuum was set on anything above the bare floors setting it didn't get much up and out on carpets. The vacuum has 7 height adjustments, but I only ended up using 1 even using it on everything from bare floors to high-low carpet. The instructions that came with this vacuum were poor, and the associated diagrams were awful! Too dark to really difficult to determine how the vaccum should initially be set up. I eventually figured it out, but it was frustrating. I kept thinking 'This should not be THIS tough!'The build quality and overall sturdiness of this unit is not nearly as good as the BISSELL ProHeat 2X Healthy Home Upright Deep Cleaner, 66Q4, which was disappointing as they are from the same maker and have the same retail price. Admittedly one is a steam cleaner and the other a vacuum, but the 'feel' aka: quality should be similar, and in my opinon, it's not.The Multi-Cyclonic Chamber with Helix Technology (whatever that means...) is supposed to keep the dirt and hair from clogging up the motor. I believe that is nothing new, but a nice name for it don't you think? The 'Easy Empty' Dirt Container is what is in place for collection of the debris you pull up versus a bag or canister. The container is made of thin pastic which to me, felt very cheap, and lightweight. I think if you were not careful, durability could be an issue with this piece of the vacuum. I would expect that without the utmost care, cracking or breaking this collection cup would likely occur with repeated use. The slide that locks it into place felt sturdier than the container itself. To empty the Dirt Container you slide it off the front of the vacuum (after unlocking it from the unit). This is not a self-contained canister like similar vacuums have, it's more like a big cup with no top; once it's taken off the vacuum. The 'yuck' that you've just sucked into the enclosure is now exposed once you disengage it from the machine. If it contains fine enough particles, you'll be putting that back into the air once you unlock and take it off the vacuum. Terrible for allergy suffers! I actually took a piece of cardboard to cover the cup while I took it to the trash. I supposed if you emptied your vac right next to the trash this would be less of an issue, but you'd still potentially be exposed to the fine dust coming up into your face. It would be better if the bin emptied from the bottom with a trapdoor arrangement.Dog hair stayed inside the vacuum when I took the Dirt Container off to empty it. I had to reach into the machine and manually remove it. With other vacuums using 'cyclonic' action, the pet hair has been forced down into the collection canister, so this was not needed. 12 AMPS of power may be a selling point, but the proof is in the suction and I think the BISSELL has less overall suction power than some other bagless vacs at a similar price point. The best feature of this vacuum is the 40' cord! I love that in my small house I can plug this vacuum into the center hallway outlet and reach every room. The vacuum is also fairly quiet, which was a nice surprise. The Febreeze filter is a nice addition to freshen the air while you vacuum, however I did find it a bit overpowering at first. I would guess that would lessen over time, but it appears it's supposed to be in place all the time. BISSELL recommends replacing the filter every 3-6 months to maintain the vacuum's performance. Febreze Premium Bissell 7/9 Hepa Filter Model: F51002 is about twenty bucks, which seems a bit pricey for an air freshener. The tools that come with this vacuum are all you should need to get the job done. The Turbo-brush tool is good for light cleaning on upolstery. If you push down too hard on it, it will bog down and the rollers will stop, so light pressure and no clingy pet hair clean-ups are a must with that one. The overall suction of the vacuum is better with the tools than it is when used on flooring in my opinion. I can see where I will be using this vacuum to clean out my car and grab cobwebs far more often than for carpets.I may be a tad pickier than most consumers, but after trying similar vacuums by Hoover and Dyson, the build quality and performance of the vacuum is just OK. I wouldn't recommend this one to my friends because it's mediocre, not 'good'.The BISSELL is fairly lightweight, which is good as it's not self-propelled. I think with daily use in a household without pets, and used on tile or wood flooring, it would be fine. Those with high-demand households, who look for durability and function, you may want to look elsewhere.FYI...Recently I reviewed and have been using the Hoover Windtunnel Max Multi-Cyclonic Bagless Upright Vacuum - UH70600. The reason I tell you this is that my review of the BISSELL Total Floors Complete Bagless Upright Vacuum is undoubtedly influenced by my recent experience with the Windtunnel. Since they are essentially priced the same, with similar features, you may want to read both reviews when making your vacuum purchasing decisions.UPDATE: 11/10/12 - I've been using this vac every day for the past week. I wish it had a light at the front, and I think the placement of the on/off switch is a little low, but continue to enjoy the long cord and lightweight manueverablity. Still not impressed with its suction off the Berber carpet, but going slowly helps. Pulling nicely on the mid-height carpeting though, and leaves the carpet looking fresh. The Febreeze filter - still not 100% sold on that part as it's so overpowering. I'm not happy with having to pull down fuzzy bits and hair (into the bin before taking it to the trash). Not even on a bagged vacuum should you have to do that very often. Could simply be a reflection of what I mentioned before, not necessarily the vacuum for households with pets.See photo re: fine dirt. Even when you remove the collection bin it continues to fall. Poor design! If you take your hand and whack the bottom of the cylinder to release it, more comes down in chunks, sort of like it's clogging up the machine. Time will tell if that's what happens.UPDATE: 12/12/12Seals around the dirt collection canister seem to be loosening. Getting some fine dust around the vacuum housing that indicates a leak. Made sure all that I could tighten was tightened and rinsed the filter. Time will tell if this is user error (not seating it properly when putting the canister back on the vac) or the build. It it possible to take the entire canister apart and blow compressed air through it. I recommend doing it about once a month if you have a household that has pets or lots of fine dirt in the house as it tends to cake in there (as fine powders will tend to compact over time) and reduces performance of this vacuum.

By MussSyke
I was able to give this a thorough workout during a pre-winter cleaning after getting fake Christmas tree needles everywhere. I am most familiar with my very old hand-me-down Panasonic upright and the newer Panasonic canister vacuums, which set my comparison points. Here are my findings:1) I quickly noticed that the Bissell Total Floors Complete sported some features I thought were ONLY available in canister style vacuums, specifically the fact that you can turn off the spin-brush to make it safe on wood floors and that it had the turbo-brush attachment. This made me realize why uprights are still in the game: combine all the attachment features (and the edge-cleaner that I never saw before) with the simplicity of the upright, and you have a real contender. The other attachments work well, specifically the upholstery cleaner for my couch, and the other brush on the baseboards. The duster is a good idea as well, although in most cases I'm not sure it's easier than a standard duster, since you have to drag the machine with you.2) Mobility. The two properly-placed handles on the Bissell make it easy to move around, but it is fairly heavy and bulky (will not get as far under furniture as the others I'm comparing to). The see-through stretch hose is awesome, but it sort of pulls the vacuum around (reminds me of my Rigid shop vac), which is a little unsettling, but I think it would be a rare situation that it actually pulls the vacuum over. The canister vacs are less bulky, but you have to deal with two pieces and you suffer the possibility of them falling over whenever the two pieces are connected and standing still. The Bissell can't help but look a little cluttered with all the attachments on the back, but they all fit on there pretty well, so the functionality of the design is good.3) Power. The Bissell is not lacking; in fact it's startling. I filled the container on my first run over a (just ok quality non-antique) 8'x11' rug that has been vacuumed within the last month. That thing sheds, but that was too much. I moved the height switch to high carpet for the next rug and it still sucked up more sheddings than expected. I think that with the extra weight (compared to the head portion of the canister vac) and similar if not more power, it just picked up more that was missed over the last few cleanings. That said, on wood floors, it did miss the very very fine dust that those carpets leave behind. My wood floors are old and not recently sealed, so it was a tough test for the Bissell, but it did need a once-over with the swiffer afterward.4) Filters. Included foam filters are washable, so there should be no recurring costs with this device. One disposable, optional Febreez filter is included which I did not try because I don't like any sort of artificial smell when unnecessary. The suction power indicator is simple, but a nice touch, something I could use on my shop vac.5) Standard wrap cord improves over the old upright because it has the "quick release lever", but it does not have the excellent self-spooling feature of the canister vacs.6) There is a pets version of the Bissell that I believe is the same thing, but with slightly modified dusting handle and turbo brush.7) Easy to use and simple to Empty. Vast improvement over old upright, and eliminates need for bags (which the canister vacs also still use). The upright vs. canister issue is a tough one by itself. I tend to go for the upright when I just want to do the carpets quickly, but I find the canister style more convenient when you want to do a thorough cleaning of blinds, baseboards, couches, etc. because you can carry around just the small part. However, this upright has enough features that make it an even tougher call. This seems to be an excellent vacuum for the price point. In the upright arena, I think you could pay twice as much, but only get something lighter that turns more easily. Definitely a quality purchase.
