I bought this vacuum specifically because we have a dog, and if I don't vacuum every other day, it looks like I haven't vacuumed in a month. I have hardwood floors and area rugs, so I looked for a vacuum that could easily transition between both. I liked the idea of a bagless vacuum because changing bags you run the risk of dumping the crud you just vacuumed off your floor and out of your rugs back onto the floor again.This model has a clear plastic receptacle that the dirt ends up in, and above it, a non removable filter chamber with space between the inner filter and the outer chamber. The problem with the vacuum, as noted by another reviewer, is that pet hair consistently gets trapped in the upper chamber, jammed in between the outer plastic wall and the inner filter. When you remove the plastic receptacle where the dirt is supposed to be, there isn't much there, because everything is jammed in the upper chamber. Dirt, hair, dust, everything. There is no way to remove the upper chamber and no easy way to clear the jam. Every time I vacuum, I have to get out a plate and a long handled spoon, remove the lower receptacle, hold the plate under the upper chamber and use the handle of the spoon to pry the dirt out of the upper chamber. This inevitably results in a rain of nastiness all over the lower part of the vacuum, me, and the floor, and there's enough of it that I can't just wipe it off the vacuum with a wet paper towel, I have to get out the handheld dustbuster to vacuum my vacuum.It's not as if we have a pack of dogs in the house. We have one dog, and it's a chocolate lab. While they shed a fair amount, they don't shed like German Shephards. My old Bissell vacuum cleaner managed to do just fine with the dog hair. This one, supposedly made to handle dog hair is horribly unsuited to do the job for which it was created.I can't really think of anything more useless than a vacuum that you have to vacuum clean after every single use, or a pet vacuum that is not made to clean up pet hair. Whether I do one room, two rooms, or both floors of the house, there is no way to avoid having to unjam the upper chamber. I would much rather have to change a bag once a month than get dirt rained on me, my floor, and the vacuum cleaner after every single use.Whoever engineered this never tested it out on any pet hair.Ridiculously awful.

We have 4 dogs and lots of dirty floors for cleaning. Have used Dyson and Dirt Devil bagless and was hoping the Bissell would be the last vacuum we have to buy.First the good news. Light weight for its size. Excellent suction. Easy to clean/replace filters. Strong brush motor. Good front light. Large wheels lets it roll over bumps easily.The bad. The canister overfills very quickly and traps dirt in the upper canister area which is not removable. When removing the lower part of the canister to dump, the upper section gets trapped hair and dirt that falls out or has to be removed by hand. Then all the filthy stuff you've been cleaning gets all over your hands, the vac and floor. Very poor design and VERY frustrating. A second vacuum is needed to clean off the first vacuum. The fill line on the canister is not accurate. While vacuuming, the canister is tilted and overfills the back area while the front is nearly empty.The on board attachment to the side falls off easily. The wand extension is two pieces that nest together. It takes extra time to assemble every time you need to use it and the inside piece falls out on the floor when removing from vacuum. It is more stable than the Dirt Devil when using the hose extension but still falls over pretty easily.If we had a small apartment and one dog then sure it would probably be fine. But, if you have an average sized house with pets the hair that gets stuck in the upper portion constantly is going to drive you nuts! To advertise this as the pet model and completely poorly design the canister cleaning is unacceptable. Such a shame because they got many features right.

I have two golden retrievers who shed A LOT, so I'm very picky about vacuum cleaners. This one falls short. Here's why:1. The suction is inadequate. Most of the dog fur is picked up, but not all of it. This was most evident to me when I vacuumed an area rug with a black border. I had to keep going over the black part until all the hairs were gone.2. Open dirt cup. Why oh why anyone would make a pet vacuum with an open dirt cup is a mystery to me. The fur fills the cup as well as the filter above. When you remove the cup to empty it, dirt and hair get everywhere, plus you have to reach above and manually pull the rest of the debri from inside the vacuum. This is messy and I don't enjoy playing with the stuff I suck out of my carpets. To make matters worse, the dirt cup is unusually small, so you have to go through this process often. I just want to vacuum and be done with it.3. The side attachment falls off. Constantly. I got so aggravated that I threw it in a closet.4. Cord is not retractable. To be fair, most vacuums don't have retractable cords. I've only had one that was retractable, but it's such a convenient feature.All in all, if you're looking for a pet vacuum, don't buy this.
