By D. Fandel
Shopped for a replacement for my ancient Hoover Self-propelled vacuumThis one has a number of great features I was looking for:Easy to carry; It has handholds at the top and the bottom of the handle that make it easy to carry from room to room, as well as helping to vacuum stairsEasy to use tools: The tools are stored at the top, and the access door flips down and away from you, allowing easy access. The hose is short, but allows me to easily snap on an attachment for cleaning off the furniture, and carpet edges. A longer hose is available as an option. I have not tried it.Good suction thru the hose and at the powerhead.Effective cleaning; the dirt finder light does seem to work. It stays red until is senses no particles are being pulled up.Light weight; at least 5 lbs lighter than the self propelled version. Much easier to carry up and down the steps.Simpler construction should last much longer than the self-propelled mechanism, too.Easy assembly; took a whole 5 minutes.Noise; not the quietest, but not as loud as my old HooverBagged; I tried a bagless unit once... what a mess every time you have to dump the dust can. This one comes with a hepa material replaceable bag. Fill it up, dump the whole thing. No muss, no fuss...All said, a great unit for a great price.

By Doctor Z
We bought this vacuum based on the good reviews but I just had to write another one after using it. When I started using the vacuum I thought the "embeded dirtfinder technology" was the biggest gimmick there was. After using the vacuum for a few minutes I realized that it actually works. There two lights (one red and one green) on the lower left corner of the vacuum and they switch from red to green when the carpet is actually clean. I thought to myself "yeah right" but when using it, the light stayed red for a long time in high traffic areas of my house but in the spare bedroom where no one ever walks it was green almost right away. I really worked harder on those high traffic areas to get that solid green light and I really feel like my carpet is clean now. Give it a try - it makes vacuuming much more entertaining.

By bicoastalmv
I purchased this vacuum only after reading many reviews and learning that it was good for pet hair. I've had other Hoovers and have been a satisfied customer--until now.# As with most uprights, to use the tools, the hose must be disconnected from the a rigid plastic tube that comes from the beater bar and through which dirt and dog hair are carried to the bag when it's being used as an upright.# On this model, the beater bar never stops rotating (unlike other Hoovers I've had), so dirt, pet hair, and anything else that might be on the floor or carpet is continuously sucked through this tube regardless of whether it's in upright vacuum or tool mode or the machine is locked in the upright position.# This model was originally made with a cap for the top of the tube when the hose has been disconnected, and it's illustrated in the manual. It's now been "redesigned" (in the words of the several Hoover CS people I eventually spoke to). Even though it's also obvious on the product that it once had a cap, the cap is no longer being shipped and isn't available.# If the hose has been disconnected from the tube to use the tools, the action of the beater bar continues to suck up dirt, etc., through the open tube, propelling and distributing it in a great cloud throughout the room (that's probably just been dusted!).# I called Hoover Customer Service four times. They told me to set the adjustment for the beater bar on high (further away from the floor or carpet) and that that would stop the machine from sucking up and redistributing dirt through the open tube and into the room. This doesn't solve the problem, and I don't even have deep pile carpet.# It does have great suction--but in this instance, I'm not sure if this is the good news or the bad!# The last Hoover CS person to whom I spoke and also I asked to take back the product refused, saying that the vacuum worked as it was intended to. Interestingly, each of the people with whom I spoke knew exactly what I was calling about without my needing to explain it. This suggests to me that I'm not the only one who has had this problem, despite their claim that it's working properly.# Bottom Line: Hoovers aren't made as well as they used to be, and their Customer Service people won't deal with obvious performance problems. No more Hoovers for me.
