I was in a pinch for a new vacuum since my 13-year old Royal Dirt Devil finally kicked the bucket. I was tempted to pick up something at the local club warehouse, but Kenmore was highly recommended by friends. After talking to a sales associate at Sears (less than 5 minutes), I knew this was the right choice.This vacuum was very easy to assemble, just one screw and it was ready to go. At 23 pounds, it isn't light, but seems to maneuver well. Overall it seemed very solid and sturdy.It has a 35-foot power cord which is a little longer than I'm used to - no more ripping it out of the wall :) The accessory hose also seems to be longer and is much more usable than the DD's. The old vacuum's hose was routed from the top of the body down to hook at the base - using about 2 feet of hose. The DD's hose didn't expand as much as the Kenmore's. Even with the hose clipped and the bottom of the DD, it would still manage to topple whenever I used the hose. No such hassles with the Kenmore, the hose connects at the bottom, and has a simple clip at the bottom of the handle for rapid, easy deployment.The on-board tools are sparse, but logical. The old DD had so many things that I never used. The Kenmore's crevice tool is amazing, there's a basic brush, and I like the air-powered pet brush (tempted to try it directly on my cat).They both are vacuum cleaner loud - about 95 decibels, but the Kenmore makes a higher pitched "whooshy" noise when running. The noise doesn't seem to carry as far in my house like the old DD which had the familiar motor sound that let the neighbors know I was cleaning.The power switch is logical and ergonomic placed right where you can see it and where your thumb reaches it. I can't say that about the old DD - 13 years later and I still hunt for the power switch which was a rocker switch on the back of the body.I like the design of the dust cup, it is extremely easy to empty and clean. The DD was a little labor-intensive, requiring the the internal filter to be pulled out, then both the cup and filter required a lot of tapping/banging/beating until they were clean. The Intuition takes a potentially messy operation makes it an easy 2-step process.The one minor thing is the dust cup has a lower capacity than my old one, but it is so fast and easy to empty it really is not an issue. The best thing is the dust cup completely disassembles for cleaning. If you've ever had a bagless, you know how disgusting the dust cup can become. I tried cleaning the old vacuum's dust cup, and it took days to dry and still looked dirty.The thing that sealed the deal for this vacuum was the beltless directly driven carpet brush. I fought with burning rubber and slipping belts on my old vacuum from the time I took it out of the box. The Kenmore's system is either on or off via the switch and it can't be accidentally left on when parked upright.

Kenmore Intuition 31040 Upright bagless Carpet & Bare Floor - White. It is easy to clean. very durable. All models have bad reviews. There is no perfect product.Can be used on tile. Long hose. Quiet.Long cord.There is no perfect -all models have bad reviews and i would recommend to a friend.

PROS: deep cleaning on carpets, great on bare floors, long hose, quietness, ease of use, metal wands, impressive build qualityCONS: poor turbo tool, heavy for someVERDICT: I review and service lots of vacuums and can honestly say that if you have your heart set on a bagless upright the Kenmore Intuition is probobly the best bet. Kenmore uprights are actually made by the Panasonic corp and are truely some of the best made vacuum cleaners on the market. NOTE: Consumer Reports says that if you or anyone in your household suffers from allergiesDO NOT BUY A BAGLESS VACUUM!
