5Amazing bagless vacuum that lives up to the hype
By Ty Arthur
UPDATE: I've now had the vacuum for about seven months and wanted to check in with an update about a potential problem buyers should be aware of. A week ago the agitator belt began making a loud whining noise and gave off an awful stench of burning rubber, and then promptly snapped in half. The belt, of course, is not covered by the warranty as it's a "consumable part" that wears out over time. A replacement belt through LG is only $11, but then the shipping is another $11 on top of that. While I still love this vacuum, I'm less than thrilled to be shelling out more than $20 for a part that may or may not break again in another six months and am left without a working vacuum in the interim. After watching the promotional video for the LG Kompressor bagless vacuum, you'd think it could cure world hunger and solve all of society's problems while doing your taxes for you. While the promotion is a little over the top, this is actually a really impressive vacuum. It does everything it should, and has almost no problems of any kind. When the vacuum is plugged in it makes a noise indicating its receiving power, and humorously enough it sounds like a video game effect when Link picks up the tri-force in Legend of Zelda. Prior to the LG Kompressor, I'd been using a Kenmore Magic Blue, which was far noisier than it had any right to be and had very little suction power. The LG picked up an absurd amount of dirt on the first pass through in my living room, and made the carpet noticeably cleaner than my last vacuum ever did. Maybe it's just because I wasn't used to how higher end vacuums operate, but it's actually rather interesting to watch all the brushes spinning and the dirt container rotate. As far as setup goes, the assembly process is simple and intuitive. Parts snap into place easily and there isn't too much labor involved. The design of the vacuum is one of its best features, as everything comes apart without any problems and the buttons are positioned conveniently. Emptying the collected dirt is more simple than with a vacuum that uses a bag. It's just a matter of pressing a button, pulling out the dirt container, and emptying in the garbage. The container snaps back into place just by pushing it against the side of the vacuum. For small spaces or areas that are harder to reach, there is smaller pet hair "wand" that pulls off the back side of the main unit (the "do not use on your pets" warning in the manual is a riot), as well as a long plastic attachment for vacuuming out tight areas in corners or inside couches. Pulling it out is a snap, and it uses the same power buttons as the main vacuum, so it's not complicated to use. The only minor flaw with the vacuum's design is that sometimes it takes a few tries to get the pet hair attachment to go back into its slot due to the positioning of the power cord, but it's honestly an issue of losing 10 seconds of time or less. For the higher tier of more expensive vacuums, this one is a real winner and it completely lives up to the hype of suction power, ease of use, and aesthetic design.

5Most Versatile Vacuum I've Ever Used
By Phil
After our 6 year old Kenmore Progressive (was a Consumer Reports top rate model) died, I went on the search for what next that could deal with pet hair and a house full of kids. I was a little concerned about going from the veteran Kenmore to newcomer LG but I am a believer now. Here's why...1) It was amazing and disgusting all at once to see what this thing got out of the last room we had used our Kenmore in just one week earlier. Not just the very visible pet hair I expected but an amazing amount of fine dirt was in the bin.2) It is quiet by comparison to the old Kenmore Progressive, which itself was radically quieter than our prior short lived Hoover Wind Tunnel, which I assumed was named for it's noise level.3) This is the easiest to use vacuum we have ever owned, period. The tool design is stellar and my wife and I had no issues pulling the wand with power head in and out. Go from carpet to couch to corners to stairs almost without stopping. Yes, you have to aim a little to get it in the right position when putting the wand back in place but I am not sure I understand some reviews that described this as difficult - it's not. All your tools are right there with you, they start and stop automatically as you detach them, and best yet, they work.I also want to mention that despite some reviews to the contrary the vacuum works with no / dead batteries, hence the backup power switch on the body of the vacuum. But, once you see how it easy it is to turn the vacuum on and off, adjust the power and start and stop the brushes from the wand / handle you will want the batteries.

5This is a great vacuum - don't buy into the Dyson hype
By jtrumpio
I have always been skeptical of the Dyson hype - I think most people love to talk about how good their Dyson is so they feel better about buying something that is four times overpriced and mediocre quality. I think the bottom line about vacuums is this:1) Ambient air pressure is mostly constant and what matters most is not how much of a pressure differential it can produce, but the volume of air it can move and where the inlets are located. Don't be fooled into thinking that one vacuum is capable of generating more "suction" than another because it has a more efficient proprietary top secret impeller design - volume of air is what matters, not pressure differential and Dyson certainly doesn't have the exclusive on impeller design. Unfortunately you'll never see manufacturers rate their vacuums in CFM. This vacuum moves an impressive amount of air and on hard surfaces will pull dog hair into the beater bar from 5+ inches away - this is because it is moving a LOT of air. It also diffuses the exhaust very well, so the vacuum doesn't blow dirt around before it has a chance to suck it up. This was something my old bagless Eureka wouldn't do - and keep in mind I didn't replace it because it was performing poorly, I replaced it because I was tired of having to empty it 5 times to vacuum my house.2) Efficiency in separating dirt from air is key - if you don't remove dust from the exhaust, the dust will just circulate through the air and settle again. This vacuum does a great job - it doesn't smell like a dirty vacuum, and in bright sunlight you don't see dust particles blowing around. Additionally the Kompressor functionality is amazing and lets you spend time vacuuming, not trying to find creative ways to not spill dirt everywhere when you empty the dirt chamber.3) This vacuum has a Gates Micro-V belt, which is the same technology used in the accessory belt on your car - it contains V channels for increased grip and cooler operation. It also uses kevlar cords which are used to transmit the power, while the rubber is only expected to provide traction on the pulley - this means the belt will NEVER stretch like the belts on other vacuums, including the Dysons. Nobody can argue with longer belt life and better performance, can they? Then again, maybe the accountants at LG didn't realize they could sell you a crappy belt 50 cent belt for $14 after 12 months of use.4) Nobody has really had a great way to store all of the attachments until this vacuum. I am really impressed with how well the attachment features store and operate.5) Washable filters are key - this vacuum includes a spare, so you're not forced to spend time hunting down consumable items when you need them the most.6) Noise. This thing is pretty quiet - in fact the quietest vacuum I've seen. Part of that is the strategy of moving a higher volume of air at a lower pressure.Since this vacuum meets all of these criteria, it's a great buy. My only complaint is that the kickdown lever doesn't offer much traction regardless of footwear.
